A note before you write

I read everything.
I respond when I can.

The longer the email, the longer the wait. A fair trade.

I keep a small post box for actual mail. Slow to reply, but I keep every letter that arrives.

Before you ask

The questions I get asked.

  • 01Will you read my essay or draft?

Sometimes. If we have corresponded before, or if you are a paying subscriber, almost always. If we are strangers and you are sending unsolicited drafts, please know I am slower with those, and I cannot promise feedback. But I will read it.

  • 02Are you available for guest essays or interviews?

Yes, occasionally. I prefer publications I already read. Use the form above with subject Press or speaking inquiry, and I will respond within two weeks if it is a fit.

  • 03Can I suggest a podcast guest?

Please. I am always taking suggestions. Tell me their name, what they have written, and why you think the conversation would be interesting. I cannot reply to every suggestion but I read them all.

  • 04How long until I hear back?

Usually within a week. Sometimes three. Once, I let an email sit for four months before replying because I needed that long to figure out what to say. I am sorry in advance, and grateful in advance for your patience.
